We’re continuing our video series “A Chat with Matt” where we talk to Matt Peterson, content training specialist at Infusionsoft, to share creative marketing ideas to help you and your business succeed.
Matt Peterson and I had a special guest visiting us all the way from the United Kingdom! That’s right; Gareth Everson is back from 8 Success Drivers and today he’s giving us some tips so we can get our blog on.
Last week Everson talked to us about how Twitter can help small business owners and entrepreneurs by implementing simple creative marketing tactics that are important as we leverage how to be social.
When it comes to blogging it’s important to have a plan, and what we mean by this is to make time to really make your blog come to life.
“In terms of businesses starting to get engaged with social media, putting out content, one of the challenges is about where do I start? From what point do you start blogging, start putting out content, to the point where you’re confident about the material you’re putting out there; and I think it’s important that a business have a content schedule…having a schedule of content based on particular topics that are related to your business,” says Everson.
Taking time to think about what is out there already; looking at social media sites and other blogs you may follow, can help you decide what topics are important for your business to satisfy a certain need. You can start your research and begin the process of making your blog unique by staying on track with your content schedule.
“Buy yourself a cheap calendar, get a diary, or if you’re using WordPress as your blogging platform there are publishing plugins that you can get for that,” says Everson.
You decide. The beauty of blogging is that you can make it your own and each month have a unique way to share that content.
Everson spends about one hour on each draft and takes some time to let the content simmer. A few days later he comes back to look at it again and make editions which will help you draft your content easier.
